About these terms

These terms apply to the Japan Trip Companion mobile app and this help website (together, “JTC”). JTC is operated under the Japan Japan Ichiban brand. By using JTC, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

You must be at least 13 years old to use JTC. If you are under the age at which you can agree to online terms where you live, a parent or guardian must agree for you.

What JTC provides

JTC provides travel-planning tools, recommendations, practical information, saved places, checklists and optional account synchronisation. It is designed to help you plan a trip, not to replace information from governments, transport operators, venues, accommodation providers or other official sources.

Features and content may change as the app develops. We will take reasonable care when making material changes and will not remove rights that the law gives you.

Check important travel information

Travel information can change without notice. Before relying on JTC, check critical details with the relevant official provider, including entry and visa requirements, safety advice, accessibility, opening hours, prices, timetables, reservations and last transport times.

JTC does not provide emergency, medical, immigration, financial or legal advice. In an emergency, contact the appropriate local emergency service.

Accounts and guest use

You can use core parts of JTC as a guest. If you create an account, you are responsible for keeping access to your email and sign-in provider secure and for activity carried out through your account. Do not share one-time sign-in codes.

You must provide accurate information where it is needed for a feature to work. You can delete your account and synchronised cloud data through the app or by following the instructions on the account deletion page.

Acceptable use

Do not misuse JTC, interfere with its operation, attempt to gain unauthorised access, introduce malicious code, scrape or copy the service at scale, impersonate another person, or use JTC in a way that breaks the law or infringes another person’s rights.

We may restrict or end access where reasonably necessary to protect users, the service or third parties, or to comply with law. Where practical, we will explain the reason and give you a fair opportunity to respond.

External services and affiliate links

JTC links to independent services, including transport, attraction, connectivity and booking providers. Their own terms, privacy policies, prices and cancellation rules apply. A link is not a guarantee of availability, quality or suitability.

Some links are affiliate links. Japan Japan Ichiban may receive a commission if you make a purchase, without increasing the price you pay. Purchases are made directly with the external provider; JTC is not the seller or booking agent unless we clearly state otherwise.

Our content and your use

JTC’s branding, design, text, illustrations and software are owned by us or used with permission. We give you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to use JTC for your own lawful travel planning.

You may not sell, sublicense, reproduce or commercially exploit JTC or its content except where the law permits it or we have agreed in writing.

Availability and updates

We aim to keep JTC available and accurate, but we cannot promise uninterrupted or error-free operation. Maintenance, security work, network problems or third-party services may occasionally affect availability. App updates may be required to keep features secure and working.

Our responsibility to you

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation. Nothing affects your statutory consumer rights.

JTC is provided for personal, non-commercial use. We are not responsible for business losses. We are responsible for loss or damage that is a foreseeable result of our breach of these terms or failure to use reasonable care and skill, but not for loss caused by inaccurate information supplied by you, an external provider, events outside our reasonable control, or your failure to check critical travel information with an official source.

Privacy

Our privacy policy explains what information JTC uses, why it is needed and the choices available to you.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms to reflect changes to JTC, the law, security requirements or the services we use. If a change materially affects your rights, we will provide reasonable notice in the app or on this website. Continuing to use JTC after the change takes effect means the updated terms apply.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If you are a consumer living elsewhere, you retain any mandatory protections and rights to bring a claim in the courts that apply where you live.
